A good year for the Drinks category

2017 was a significantly strong year for Drinks, a very important category that accounts for over 13bn litres across Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, Small Shops and Discounters. During the year ending September 2017, the volume trend reached +6% in Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, Small Shops and Discounters. This trend is also reinforced by Out of Home dynamics even if the results of this channel are less strong.

Dairy: a dynamic sector with a wide and growing  choice  of products 

The revenue of the  dairy market formed by all the packaged products containing milk  was valued  3,5 billion euro in the first 8 months of the current year. It is worth 11,6% of the total food & bev turnover in the modern retail channel in Italy. Considering also cut-to-order cheese ( in hypermarkets, supermarkets and mini-markets) dairy business  totals over 5 Billion euro.

The warm season impacts the market, but Food and Drink boost FMCG sales.

FMCG sector is reporting after the first six months of 2017 a significantly positive trend. The key growth driver is the Food & Beverage sector: Food categories reporting 1.8% volume sales growth a while Beverages, thanks to a favorable summer season start show a +4.2%.
