The initiative aims exclusively at Startups and SMEs in the Food Innovation sector (product innovation).
The macro-objectives of the initiative are:
A group of 12 startups will be chosen from all participants, according to a procedure set out in the “Participation modalities” section.”
Participation in the event is free of charge for the selected companies – except for out-of-pocket expenses (accommodation, transport, etc.), which will be borne by the participants – and offers the following services:
The FOOD INNOVATION START UP @CIBUS 2020 opportunity is promoted in partnership with ART-ER, FEDERALIMENTARE Services, ICE Agenzia, and Le Village by CA Parma: through their own networks, each one will facilitate contacts between startups and companies in the agri-food sector.
In particular, ICE Agenzia, through its own network of offices abroad, will invite to the event foreign operators working in the Corporate, Funds and VC fields and in R&D and acceleration centres in countries that offer greater synergies with the sector at the heart of this event.

Startups and innovative product SMEs wishing to apply to participate in the event must meet the following minimum requirements:
The promotion of the initiative and subsequent selection of participating startups will be handled by the organizers of the project.
Once the time-limit has expired, an ad hoc Technical Committee will be in charge of selecting a group of 12 companies, taking into account the level of innovation of each proposed project and its relevance to the topics addressed by Cibus 2020.
Following the selection, the 12 companies that have been chosen will receive by email the application form to the Food Innovation Start Up @Cibus 2020 area. This must be filled in and returned within 3 days, under penalty of exclusion.
Application forms received incomplete or after the set deadline will not be accepted. Applications from companies in default against the organizers, even if submitted by association bodies, will not be accepted.

The European Project ASKFOOD – Alliance for Skills and Knowledge to Widen Food Sector-related Open Innovation, Optimization and Development – of which Federalimentare is partner, is funded by the European Union and it is under the Erasmus + Programme. Coordinated by the University of Teramo, the Project aims at renewing the quality of HE teaching, improving professional skills of technologists and scientists in food technologies; thus, the general purpose is the promotion of innovation for agrifood companies. Besides the implementation of an interactive and dynamic networking for long-term sharing of multi-sectoral knowledge, ASKFOOD designed innovative scenarios to create new business opportunities for Start-Ups & Companies, such as the Reversed Incubator.
